Before your first booking, Stripe just needs to confirm which of these describes you. Most providers get through this in a few minutes.
✓Solo trader
~5 min- Registered as self-employed or a sole trader with your local tax authority
- A personal tax ID tied to that registration
- Your own bank account for payouts
✓Registered business
~5 min- A formally incorporated entity (LLC, Ltd, SL, GmbH, or local equivalent)
- Your company registration and business tax ID
- A business bank account matching the registered entity
Not registered yet? Reach out to your local tax office or self-employment authority — most countries let you register as a sole trader online in a single session, often the same day. This is a standard payment provider requirement for anyone accepting card payments.
